What does the Government want to achieve through WEC?

A working population proficient in English is the key to maintaining Hong Kong's competitive edge as an international centre for business, finance and tourism. The Workplace English Campaign is a major Government initiative to heighten public awareness of the importance of English competency at work and to raise the standard of workplace English. We hope that the Government's pump-priming efforts will bear fruit through the sustained commitment and support of the professional and business sectors, and from employees and the community at large.

3.
How could WEC help raise the English standard of the workforce?

Benchmarking is one of WEC's core features and it would be an effective step towards promoting English competency in the workplace. Hong Kong Workplace English Benchmarks are established to reflect the standard of English required for different occupations and sectors of industry. Coupled with the Benchmarks is a Funding Scheme for employees' English training and attainment of the respective benchmarks.
