Latest News on Funding Scheme for
Workplace English Training

The applications figure of the Funding Scheme for Workplace English Training, which supports employers to commission in-house English training tailor-made for their employees, continued to grow in 2006.

In view of the increasing popularity of the Funding Scheme, WEC is conducting a thorough review to see how the Scheme can better help employees improve their English proficiency. The review is expected to be completed in the first half of 2007. Findings will be posted onto the WEC website in due course.

Useful Tips
Starting from this issue, we will include some useful tips for Corporate Supporters to apply for grants under the Funding Scheme for Workplace English Training and to adopt the Hong Kong Workplace English Benchmarks (HKWEB).

If you have any particular questions on the Funding Scheme or HKWEB or comments to share with other Corporate Supporters, please write to the Office of WEC (OWEC). We will reply collectively in the e-Newsletter.

Employers who wish to apply for grants under the Funding Scheme for commissioning in-house English training tailor-made for their employees are required to submit a description of the training course(s) concerned to OWEC prior to the application.
¡@
2
¡@ Receive approval for course description within 28 days
¡@
If the course description received is clearly outlined with sufficient details included, OWEC will issue a written notification to the applying company within 28 days. Submit application form to earmark fund
before commencement of training

¡@
The application form must reach OWEC within three month before commencement of the training courses concerned for successful earmarking of funding under the Funding Scheme.
¡@
4
¡@ Receive written notification on approval for
earmarking of fund within four weeks
¡@
If the information/document received is clearly outlined with sufficient details included, OWEC will issue a written notification on the outcome of the application to the applying company within four weeks from the date of receipt of the application. If the application is approved, applicants would also be informed of the amount of grant that has been earmarked for the application.
¡@
5
¡@ Take at least eight to ten weeks to complete the process
¡@

As it normally takes at least eight to ten weeks to complete the above procedures before application for grants is approved, employers who are interested to apply to the Funding Scheme for their in-house English training are recommended to apply early and reserve sufficient time for application before commencement of the training course(s) concerned.

Nevertheless, if the applicants have already received approval for a particular course and would like to organise the same course again for other employees in the same company, they may skip parts (1) and (2) and submit the application form together with the course approval code to OWEC. They will receive the notification on earmarking of fund within four weeks.
